Committee Recognizes Holyoke 5th Grader as 2019 Grand Colleen Float Design Winner

Bill Quesnel, Chair of the Float Committee and Devin Sheehan, 2019 Parade President, named Mater Dolorosa 5th Grader, Emma Tisdell, as this year’s winner of the Grand Colleen Float Design Contest. Emma was presented with a framed copy of her design, a $100 scholarship, and an invitation to ride along in the truck that pulls the Grand Colleen’s float in the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade.

Emma is the daughter of James and Maureen Tisdell and is the big sister to Jack and Patrick Tisdell of Holyoke. Emma’s design was one of nearly 200 applications that were submitted and was chosen for its charming image – Colleens sitting in a rustic Irish cottage. When asked why she chose this image Emma said “I’m proud of my Irish heritage and wanted to show something different and make the Colleens look like they are in Ireland.”

Students at Dean Technical High School have begun building this year’s Grand Colleen float based on Emma’s design.
