William Quesnel Named O’Connell Award Recipient for the 67th Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade

Holyoke, Massachusetts – December 22, 2017 – The St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke has announced that the 56th recipient of the George E. O’Connell Award is long-time Committee member and a resident of Holyoke, William Quesnel. The O’Connell Award is presented to a member of the Parade Committee who has made significant contributions to the fundraising efforts of the Parade.

A 12-year Committee member, Bill is Chair of the Float Committee and is an active member of the Road Race Committee and serves on the Board of Directors. Bill initiated the Parade Committee’s “Design the Grand Colleen’s Float” contest for Holyoke school children. This exciting contest asks children to design the Grand Colleen’s float and the winner gets to ride in the Parade along with the Colleens. This endeavor has created a lot of excitement for the kids about the Parade, as well as educating them about float building and design.

Bill recently retired after 39 years of service at Hamilton Sundstrand in Connecticut. He is also a proud veteran. Bill and his wife of 45 years, Inga, are the proud parent to two adult children and two grandchildren.

“I am shocked, honored and humbled for receiving this award”, said Bill. “I joined this committee to give something back to the community and I’ve worked to support several committees. One of my favorite tasks is working with the children and their designs for the Grand Colleen float. The School Committee has been very supportive in this endeavor and it is such a pleasure to present the award to the successful pupil. The William Dean Technical High School carpentry students now build our float for the parade and their efforts and skill please me more than anything I could build. I am honored to be part of such an outstanding organization that serves our city tirelessly.”

2018 Parade President, Timothy O’Grady said “You can always count on Bill to get things done. He is a very dedicated and a generous member. Bill puts his heart and soul into helping others and has demonstrated this by the tremendous work he has done for us over the years. We’re blessed to have him on the Committee.”

Bill and other Award recipients will be recognized at the St. Patrick’s Committee Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 27 at the Wherehouse? in Holyoke. To purchase tickets, please contact Karen Casey at kmcasey@comcast.net.
