ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE 69TH ANNUAL HOLYOKE ST. PATRICK’S PARADE FROM THE ST. PATRICK’S COMMITTEE OF HOLYOKE

Earlier this month, as a direct result of the COVID-19 health pandemic, the decision was made by City of Holyoke and Parade Committee officials to cancel the 69th Annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade and the 45th Annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Road Race planned for the weekend of March 21-22, 2020. We understand that many individuals – spectators, marchers, and runners alike – were incredibly saddened by this decision, but none more so than the 200+ Parade Committee members who worked all year long to organize the Parade, Road Race, and numerous other associated events.

This is an unprecedented situation and in our 69-year history, the St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke has never had to cancel our Parade or our Road Race. After much discussion, the Board of Directors and the general membership of the Parade Committee have agreed that the best way to move forward is to postpone our 69th Parade until March, 2021!

Although we were able to celebrate many of our 2020 Award Recipients and Colleens at their respective social events, we believe that the greatest honor is to be able to march or ride down the streets of Holyoke in the Parade. We have an outstanding slate of Award Recipients and Colleens for 2020, and we feel strongly that they, along with their families and friends, truly deserve to have that experience.

The St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke will “hold-over” the 2020 Award Recipients and Colleens in order to celebrate them on March 21, 2021 at the 69th Annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade. Current Parade Committee Officers and members of the Board of Directors, as presently constituted, will continue in the same capacities through the 2021 Parade Season. In this off-season, the Parade Committee will consider many of the outstanding questions and details that surround postponing the Parade and Road Race, and we will communicate any substantive changes when and as necessary.

The St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke would like to sincerely thank the thousands of people who have contacted us during the last couple of weeks. The extraordinary expressions of support and understanding during this truly unprecedented time will never be forgotten. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Half-Way to St. Patrick’s Day Road Race, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Holyoke Lodge of Elks/Ashley Reservoir.

Thank you.
