Daniel J. Gallivan Award
The Daniel J. Gallivan Award recipient shall be a long-standing member of this Association who, while not a resident of the City of Holyoke, has made significant contributions to the overall success of the Parade and/or our Association. (Daniel Gallivan was from South Hadley and was a longtime member of the St Patrick’s Committee.)
2024 Daniel J. Gallivan Award Recipient:
Susie Howard
A lifelong resident of Westfield, Susie has seamlessly blended her passion for design and marketing with community service. A 2007 graduate of Westfield High School, she pursued further education at Holyoke Community College and then at Westfield State University, where she completed her degree in Psychology and Art in 2011.
Over the past decade, Susie has made her mark in the advertising, marketing, and design industries, crafting effective creative solutions for a diverse range of clients, from national retailers to educational institutions. Additionally, she runs her own businesses, Walton Read and Susie Read Photography, specializing in branding and photography for local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Susie's involvement with the Sons of Erin began in 2012, joining the Westfield Parade Committee and the St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke as a regional representative. Except for 2013, when she was a member of the Sons of Erin Colleen Court, she has been a steadfast volunteer in the parking lot and along the route each parade season.
In her varied roles with the committee, Susie has co-chaired events such as Awards Night and the Colleen Gathering, and has been the co-chair of the Website Committee since 2016. She recently completed a five-year term on the Board of Directors and serves as the committee's in-house designer and photographer.
Beyond the Parade committee, Susie has served on the Boards of the Northampton Area Young Professionals and the Ad Club of Western Mass. She also successfully led the Ales for Tails Pub Crawl in Westfield for five years, raising funds for the Westfield Animal Shelter.
Outside her professional and volunteer endeavors, Susie is passionate about coastal travel, film photography, and culinary exploration. Family time with her husband Jon, daughter Gigi, and their two dogs, Dottie and Georgie, is precious to her. She credits her mother, Ann, with instilling in her a deep appreciation for community service and the importance of giving back.
