St. Patrick’s Committee Names DJ O’Connor as 2026 O’Connell Award Recipient
The Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade Committee proudly announces that David “DJ” O’Connor has been selected as the 2026 O’Connell Award recipient, honoring his decades of dedication to the Parade, the community, and his enduring Irish spirit. The George E. O’Connell Award is given annually to a long-standing member of the Committee who has made significant contributions to the fundraising efforts of the Parade and/or this Association.
A lifelong Holyoker, DJ O’Connor is the owner of Mass. Surgical Supply, LLC, where he has worked for 42 years, continuing the family business his father began. A 1979 graduate of Holyoke High School, DJ’s journey took him to Ohio and Florida before returning to his hometown in 1983—where he immediately reconnected with his roots and began his long service to the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade.
Since joining the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Committee in 1983, DJ has been a cornerstone of the organization. He has served on numerous committees—including the Colleen Contest, Grand Marshal’s Reception, and Music Committees—and held key leadership roles as Sergeant-at-Arms and Master of Ceremonies for the John F. Kennedy Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony. His parade legacy includes serving as the 2006 Parade President and receiving the prestigious Rohan Award in 1999. DJ also plays a vital role in the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Road Race, ensuring that hundreds of volunteers are properly staffed and positioned—an essential responsibility for the safety and success of this beloved event.
Beyond his committee work, DJ is a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Holyoke Elks. His deep connection to Holyoke extends through his business, community involvement, and family life. He and his wife, Alice, reside in Easthampton, where they raised their three daughters—Kara, Bridget, and Kelly.
When he’s not volunteering or running his business, DJ enjoys skiing, golfing, boating, fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir, and traveling. Yet, his heart always remains with Holyoke and the Parade that celebrates its spirit each March.
“DJ O’Connor represents the very best of what the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade stands for – dedication, pride, and a tireless commitment to keeping our tradition alive,” said Jim Wildman, Parade President. “For more than four decades, DJ has been a driving force behind the scenes, helping ensure that the Parade continues to go down the street each year. Whether he’s volunteering at events, leading committees, or rallying community and business support, DJ gives everything he has to this organization and to the City of Holyoke. His leadership, generosity and love for the Parade family truly embody the spirit of the O’Connell Award.”
DJ will be honored at the Grand Coronation Ball on Saturday, February 14, 2026. For tickets or more information, please visit holyokestpatricksparade.com.
